You can think of Salesforce as being a bit like your mobile phone. It has a lot of great functionality out of the box, but this can be extended through apps.
Salesforce has an app store called the App Exchange where you can access apps that have been created by Salesforce or by third parties. Some are free and others have a cost, but there are literally hundreds of apps available.
The AlphaSys Fundraising Accelerator is in fact a collection of apps itself, but we’ll get to that in a moment.
First let’s look at how we switch between apps.
From your Salesforce screen, click on the App Launcher button.
Apps can be located in a few different ways.
If you know the name of your app you can type that name into the Search field. For example, the apps that are part of the Fundraising Accelerator, all have names beginning with the word “Pronto”, if you type Pronto these apps will become visible on your App Launcher menu.
You can also just view a list of the apps; Salesforces app launcher displays apps in groups. The most common apps get displayed in the All Apps section as large icons.
A full list of tabs from the apps are displayed by name further down the page.
Regardless of how you locate the app you want, you Launch the app by clicking on it.
For example, let’s search for and locate the Pronto Giving App and run it by clicking on it.
When you Launch an App, you’ll be returned to what may look like the original Salesforce home screen, but notice the words Pronto Giving at the top left of your screen. This is the name of the app you are currently in.
If you look more closely, you’ll also see that the Navigation Bar tabs, and menu items have also changed to reflect the app that we’re now in.
Some apps will share similar functions. For example, many apps will still provide you with access to the Accounts and Contacts functions. They will also often provide you with access to specific tabs and functions for that app.
Overtime you will become familiar with the layout and function of each app.
