Donors give for a multitude of reasons, and sometimes that reason is as a gift in honor of someone else or in lieu of gifts. These are common for birthdays or anniversaries, or it can be in memory of someone who has passed away.
Let’s say a donor wants to make a tribute donation to the memory of someone.
There are three contacts involved in this process; the donor, the honoree contact and the contact to be notified. These should be set up and identified before creating the opportunity. Once the opportunity has been created against the donor, follow these steps:
On the Opportunity record detail page, scroll down to Tribute Information section.
In the Tribute Type field specify whether it a gift In Honor or In Memorial.
In the Honoree Contact field select the existing contact record of the honoree.
Use the Notification Preference field to record how a notification of the gift should be sent. The options include email, phone, etc.
In the Notification Recipient Contact field, select the existing contact of the next of kin or other person who is to be notified of the gift.
Additional information about the recipient can to be entered in the Notification Recipient Information field, however if you have already created a contact for them, the email/address information should be recorded against the contact instead.
We’re all done. The opportunity has successfully been attributed.
The above example is a donation made from Presley, made in honor of, and attributed to Katy Perry. Karen Perry will be notified via email about this gift. (Note that this is not automated).
