While most not for profits will perform much of their data processing from within Salesforce, many also rely on other external platforms for at least some of their data capture. This might be through an external website, a face to face marketing company, a telemarketing company or a peer to peer platform.
In each case, these platforms will generally produce a list of donors and transactions which need to be imported into Salesforce on a regular basis.
The type and nature of data that needs to be imported will vary significantly depending on the platform it comes from.
The Fundraising Accelerator incorporates a facility called Bulk Data Import that uses the BDE Staging Object. This consists of an object in the Salesforce database which has a standardized structure into which you can import virtually many types of contact and transaction information. From there, the Fundraising Accelerator will look after transferring these data elements into their respective objects and fields across your Salesforce org, largely automatically.
The data import process usually consists of the following stages:
- Data preparation and cleansing
- Data import into BDE Item “Staging Object”
- Conversion from the Staging Object into the discrete Salesforce objects
The Fundraising Accelerator Staging Object can handle the following types of source data.
- Contacts and Accounts
- Precleared donations, including regular gifts
- Uncleared donations, including regular gifts
- Payment details
- Reporting information
- Campaign and parent campaign details
- GAU allocations
- Soft credit details
- Regular giving upgrade and downgrades
